Gerhard Reinelt (University of Heidelberg)

Short Biography

Gerhard Reinelt studied Computer Science and Operations Research at the University of Bonn. After doctoral studies in Bonn and Augsburg, he received his doctoral degree in Mathematics from the University of Augsburg where he habilitated in 1991. He got his first professor position in Mathematics in 1992 at Heidelberg University. Since 1999 he is professor for Computer Science in Heidelberg. Reinelt is member of the Heidelberg Graduate School of "Mathematical and Computational Methods for the Sciences" and the Research Training Group "Spatio/Temporal Graphical Models and Applications in Image Analysis", and he is one of the directors of the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR). His research is dedicated to the development and implementation of effective algorithms for solving hard combinatorial optimization problems to proven optimality.
